A native of South Texas, Vanessa Cantu graduated magna cum laude from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, earning a B.B.A. in Marketing. After receiving her undergraduate degree, Vanessa realized her true calling lay with the law, and landed a legal assistant position with the Phipps team while she prepared for law school.
Vanessa attended St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas, and transitioned from legal assistant to law clerk for the Phipps team.
In addition to clerking for PHIPPS ANDERSON DEACON LLP, Vanessa contributed to the St. Mary’s Law Journal and participated as a member of the St. Mary’s Moot Court team, earning recognitions for her written advocacy skills at state and national competitions. Vanessa won a “Best Brief” award for her participation in the American Bar Association’s National Appellate Advocacy Competition Boston Regional.
Vanessa spent her summers as a law student serving as a judicial intern for the Honorable Marina Garcia-Marmolejo for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, and as a legal intern at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas, where she gained valuable practical experience and insight into federal courts.
After receiving her J.D., Vanessa was hired as an associate. Through her different roles with the firm, Vanessa has worked in a wide variety of areas including mass torts, first party insurance, product liability, and agricultural law, making her a valuable member of the team.
In her spare time, Vanessa enjoys spending time with family and friends, and rooting for the San Antonio Spurs.
